1. Chimps and gorillas: Both chimpanzees and gorillas are very close to humans. Their emotional intelligence is also higher than other animals. If a small one in a flock of chimpanzees or gorillas dies, the remaining members will surround the body for a long time. Gorillas sometimes take leaves to cover dead bodies. The most heartbreaking cases are when children of chimpanzee mothers die. The mothers can refuse to accept the truth. They just hold the corpse for months and take care of it as if their children are still alive. Only when the corpses are rotten, then the mothers will let go but they will continue grieving. Conversely, if the mothers die, their children will not leave and eventually may die of starvation.
