Importance of Amazon Rainforest for Mankind

Amazon is considered as the lifeline for the existence of mankind. It is a wide range of forest encompassing the area of more than 2 million square kilometers. This forest is expanded to the vicinities of 9 countries with most of its area found in Brazil. It is known as the Amazon Rainforest because of its rainy condition. It is the most bio-diverse area with the presence of many known and unknown species to the science. The area of Amazon is so expanded that a large part of the GDPs of the 9 countries is dependent on it. We witness fires almost every year in this forest which is a threat to the existence of mankind. This forest is considered as the lifeline of mankind because it provides a hefty amount of Oxygen to human beings and consumes the CO2 in return.

Composition of Amazon Forest:

Amazon forest is home to as much as 390 billion trees and more than 16000 plant species are found here. There are millions of animal species that are also found here including some of the rare species of animals. It is the only place where nature is preserved in its original form. It has been more than 50 million years this forest has existed on this planet and has provided us with its essential fruits, woods, medicine, oxygen, and innumerable benefits. The world’s rarest species like jaguars, black panthers, crocodiles, lizards, and anacondas are to be found in the Amazon forest. Moreover, the rarest specie of Pink dolphin is also found in the Amazon River that passes more than 4000 miles through this forest. This is not all; there are other amphibians, animals, birds, and plants in this forest which are not found anywhere else in the world.

Provides Cure and Medicines:

Amazon forest has sufficed the purpose of a cure for the many diseases found in human beings. You would find yourself surrounded by all the medicines around you provided by the Amazon if you pay heed to the medicines around you. This is the importance of the Amazon Rainforest. The aborigines like “Yanomami” and few others who have profound knowledge of the chemical compounds found in the herbs and shrubs of Amazon. They are perfect in this field and help scientists in finding the cure for diseases whenever they are asked to. In short, Amazon is a home to cure almost every disease.

Precipitation:

The Amazon forest is the rainiest place in the world. It is the reason for the precipitation in the forest, countries around it, the South American Continent, and even outside the continent. The presence of extensive trees in the forest is surely the reason for precipitation for the areas around it. It is one of the most ecological geographies because of its rain friendly conditions.

Amazon River:

Amazon has preserved the world’s second-largest river. This river covers more the area of more than 4000 miles and serves the purpose of rain too. It is the second-largest body of freshwater in the world. In this contemporary time when the world is going through the time of water scarcity; the Amazon river is one of the delicacies of nature.

The threat to the Amazon Forest:

Amazon forest has been under the threat for many years. We witness fires in the Amazon forest almost every year. The reason behind these fires is unknown but images from the satellite show that these fires might be started deliberately. There are speculations that these fires are deliberately erupted to clear the ground and extract the ores and minerals found in the forest. But, this extraction of oil and other minerals at the expense of the existence of the Amazon forest is not acceptable in any way. We should preserve this gift of God by saving it for our generation to come.
