Maintaining the Lawn without Professionals' Help

Maintaining the Lawn without Professionals' Help

It is a frequently asked question how to maintain a lawn like professionals. Hiring a professional for the trimming, cutting, and pruning of the lawn is very expensive. This is something that you can do on your own if you get yourself acquainted with the basic knowledge of lawn care. It is not very difficult to maintain a lawn like professionals without their help. Today, we would talk about some techniques to mow a lawn and your lawn will look like a piece of lawn from heaven.

Do not Trim A lot:

It is a common misperception of the masses that they need to mow the lawn, again and again, to keep it healthy and beautiful. However, this is not the case; too frequent trimming of the lawn damages the grass and it never gets the chance to stay healthy and sound.

In the cold climate places, the cool-season grasses like ryegrass and fescue are to be found. The growth of such grasses mostly occurs in the fall and spring. This is why frequent cutting is not required in the summer season.

Do not Cut Too Much:

The ideal length to cut the grass is 1/3 of the total height. This is the first and foremost mistake of the unprofessional mowers. They think that they would not have to cut it again real soon. This mentality compels them to cut the grass more than required. This makes lawn vulnerable to the weeds and other environmental events like droughts. The grasses only remain healthy when there is an optimal balance between the length of their roots and blades. This optimal balance remains when it is cut as per the assigned length above. The optimal balance also helps the grass to grow thicker and thicker.

Do not Cut the Wet Grass:

It is advised not to cut the grass when it is wet. This will make the leaves of the grass to stick together and the cutting will be uneven. When the length of the grass is not alike; it will damage the growth of the lawn grass. Few kinds of grass will block the reach of sunlight to the others. This uneven supply of sunlight will force the leaf blades to get rotten.

Do not Mow in a Hurry:

In this busy life, it is very difficult to get time for mowing and when you get time; you are always in a rush. This rush to reach somewhere tempts you to cut the lawn in a hurry. Resultantly, the uneven clumps grass might be left on the lawn. This would destroy the beauty of your lawn.

Change the Pattern of Cutting:

It is very important to mow the grass in a different pattern every time. This will allow the grass to grow upright and healthy. If you mow every time in one direction; this will move the grass to grass towards the right or left. The beauty of your lawn will vanish and the health of the grass will also be affected.

Sharp Mower Blades:

If you mow the lawn with rusty or less sharp blades machine; this will infect the grass. The grass of your lawn will be exposed to the attack of pests. It is advised to sharpen your blades every 60 days. If you have not sharpened it for a long time; this is high time to sharpen it otherwise it will harm your lawn.

Replacement of Edger:

If you have an edger machine at home; it is well n good otherwise you need not buy this expensive machine. You can use the string-trimmer head in a vertical position to cut the grass along the edges of the walkways.

Avoid the Grass to be Spread onto Sidewalks:

Freshly cut grass is sticky and stains the concrete areas. This will dirty your yard and it will look ugly. The simple technique is to change the direction of your machine to the side where grass does not spread on the concrete rather it is blown back into the yard.
