Six Best Places to Visit in Delhi

Delhi is the capital city of India and is peerless in its rich history. This city has seen the rule and attacks of innumerable people before the independence of India. Delhi is a place with its scenic forts, monuments, mosques, and gardens. The current Delhi is an amalgam of old historic places and newly developed sky-scrappers and modern roads. Delhi rejuvenates all the stories of past through the historic places it has and especially the long rule of Mughals over Delhi. In this article, we will discuss a few must-visit places in Delhi.

Red Fort:

Red Fort of Delhi narrates the epic story of rules over Delhi. IT was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1838 when he decided to move the capital of his empire from Agra to Delhi. Red Fort not only makes people remember the Mughal rule but also apprises the freedom struggle of India. This fort was also captured by the Sikhs and British during their rule of the city. Those who are interested in visiting this place may reach at Red Fort in the night to attend one hour sound and light show which is held every night.

Jama Masjid:

Jama Masjid is another brainchild of British emperors who have ruled India for more than 300 years. They have made infrastructures that are now the colossal sources for tourism in India. Jana Masjid Delhi is one of the largest mosques in India. It can provide space to more than 25000 worshippers at once. This mosque was completed in 1656 during the Mughal rule. If you climb the Southern tower of Jama Masjid, you will witness the breathtaking bird’s eye view of Delhi. Another thing to make sure before visiting this mosque is to wear proper clothes in which your legs, stomach, shoulders, etc must not be left uncovered. You can find the proper dresses right outside the mosque.

Chandani Chowk is one of the principal streets of Old Delhi. This city is full of hustle and bustle of pedestrians, rickshaws, cycles, carts, and animals. The buildings around this street are old and further beautify its look. This place is one of the busiest markets in India. The streets are narrow and dwindling and in those streets, you can find all sorts of jewelry, fabrics, and electronic items. This place is the business hub of Old Delhi. Leaving all other things aside, the food of Chandni Chowk is sumptuous and matchless in taste. One must go for eating food of Chandni Chowk and especially the famous Karim’s Hostel is a place renowned for its taste in whole Delhi.

It is another tourist attraction place recently built by spiritual organization BAPS in 2005. This place is an epitome of Indian culture and beautifully portrays Indian culture through it. It has mesmerizing white marble shrine, pink stone, sculptures, boat ride, and sprawling garden. This place is out of this world and you need at least half a day to visit it completely. It should also be noted that cell phones and cameras are not allowed in this complex.

Humayun’s Tomb is one of the very first architectures by the Mughals and it paved the way for glorious creations in infrastructure in India. It was built in 1570 and it remains a resting place for the second Mughal King Humayun. Humayun’s Tomb is very similar to the Taj Mahal because this tomb was an inspiration in the making of the Taj Mahal. Humayun’s Tomb paved the way for a series of construction that took place in India throughout the Mughal era.

Qutab Minar:

Qutab Minar is one of the oldest monuments in India. It was built in 1193 by King Qutab Uddin Aibak. The reason behind the making of this piece of architecture remains unclear but there are a lot of mysteries that still circulate. One group of people says that it was built to announce the victory and commencement of Muslim rule in India while another group says that it was built to call people for prayers. There are a few other stories also available regarding the creation of this minaret.  Another distinction of this minaret is that it is one of the tallest brick minarets in the world. The craving and ayahs of the Holy Quran written on this minaret extend its beauty.
